How to convert Bijoy text to Unicode Bengali (free, in your browser)

Turn old Bijoy or SutonnyMJ text into Unicode Bengali you can search, copy and use anywhere. Steps, common problems and why gibberish appears.

All guides

Bijoy (also called ANSI Bengali) stores Bengali as ordinary Latin letters and symbols. It looks right only while a Bijoy font such as SutonnyMJ is applied. Copy that text somewhere else and you see gibberish like "Avwg evsjv". Unicode is the standard that every modern phone, website and app understands, so converting is usually the fix.

Convert in four steps

  1. Open the Bijoy to Unicode converter.
  2. Paste your Bijoy text, or choose a .txt file.
  3. Pick "Convert everything" if the whole text was typed in Bijoy, or "Keep English words" if English is mixed in.
  4. Check the result on the right, then copy it or download it as a .txt file.

Things to know

  • The conversion runs in your browser. The text is not uploaded.
  • Text that is already Unicode Bengali is left alone, so converting twice does no harm.
  • Mixed text is a guess. A word that looks like English is kept, but an unusual English word can be converted by mistake, so read the result.
  • If a few characters cannot be matched, the tool tells you how many. They are usually rare symbols.

Text inside a PDF

If the Bijoy text is inside a PDF, copying it gives the same gibberish. FileDeck's PDF to Markdown tool detects Bijoy fonts and converts the text for you. For scanned pages, use OCR instead.
