Security
How your documents are handled, in plain language.
Last updated: 10 October 2026
Your files stay on your device
Almost every FileDeck tool (PDF, image and file tools) runs inside your web browser using code that is downloaded to your device. When you open a PDF, edit it, merge it or convert it, the file is read from your device, processed in your browser's memory and saved back to your device. It is not sent to our servers, because the tool does not need a server to do the work.
The exceptions
The AI tools (AI Write, Summarize and Translate) cannot run in the browser. They send the text extracted from your document to an AI service so it can reply, and the tool page says so before you run it. Do not use these tools for documents you are not allowed to share with a third-party service.
Encrypted connection
The site is served over HTTPS, so what you load from the site and what your browser sends to it are encrypted in transit.
Protecting your own PDFs
- Protect PDF adds a password so the file cannot be opened or edited without it.
- Redact PDF permanently removes text and images from the file, not just hides them.
- Edit PDF removes the old text or picture from the file when you change or delete it.
- Metadata lets you inspect and clear the title, author and other hidden properties.
What we do not do
- We do not ask you to create an account.
- We do not keep copies of the files you process.
- We do not sell or share your data for advertising.
Third-party code and services
FileDeck is built with open-source libraries such as pdf.js, pdf-lib and MuPDF. Some helper files, such as character maps for PDF rendering and web fonts, are loaded from public content-delivery networks. Those requests reveal your IP address and browser details to the network, as any website request does, but never your documents.
