How to reduce an image to a specific size in KB (for forms and uploads)
Get a photo under 100 KB or 200 KB for an application form or upload. Resize first, then compress, and check the result before you submit.

Job applications, exam forms and many websites limit photos to a size such as 100 KB or 200 KB, and often to exact pixel dimensions. A phone photo is several megabytes, so it needs two changes: fewer pixels, then more compression.
Step by step
- Read the requirement carefully: file type (usually JPG), width and height in pixels, and the maximum size in KB.
- Open Resize image and set the exact width and height. Keep the proportions unless the form asks for a fixed size, then crop first.
- Open Compress image and add the resized photo. The tool shows how much space you saved before you download.
- If the file is still too big, lower the quality a little and compress again. If the photo turns blurry, go back up one step.
- Check the final size in your file manager before you upload.
Why resizing comes first
Pixels are what make a photo big. A 4000-pixel-wide photo shown at 300 pixels wastes almost all of its data. Reducing the dimensions often gets you under the limit by itself, and then compression only has to do a little, so the picture stays sharp.
Good to know
- Both tools run in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded.
- JPG is usually the smallest format for photos. Convert PNG screenshots to JPG if the form allows it.
- Keep the original photo. Save the reduced copy under a new name.
